Tonight: In Conversation With Robin Wall Kimmerer (Live Stream)
I am very much looking forward to being in conversation with Robin Wall Kimmerer and fellow artist Cadine Navarro TODAY (Wednesday, at 5pm EST) at Otterbein University. Kimmerer’s lecture will focus on a chapter called "Grammar of Animacy" from her book Braiding Sweetgrass. After, Cadine and I will join her on stage to ask her questions about her work and how it might intersect with our own projects, and the arts more broadly.
What do you think? What would you ask Robin Wall Kimmerer? Feel free to comment below.
I also wanted to let you all know there is a live stream of the event. Go to the link below, and there is a click-through to the live stream:
You can now watch the lecture here (until April 13, 2023):
Kimmerer’s book, Braiding Sweetgrass, has been such an inspiring work. In it, she connects indigenous wisdom she has learned from being a member of the Potawatomi Nation, and finds ways to reconcile this wisdom with her work as a botanist. They complement one another to create a deeply meaningful and important way of being in the world.
I am (obviously) especially curious about aspects of listening and sound, and what Kimmerer’s thoughts might be on them. (I am guessing this will be a softball question, because to my mind, listening is integral to her writing and stories.) I’m also keen to learn about Kimmerer’s thoughts on gifts, and ways of listening for the gifts all around us. (I know, I know, another easy question! But I think it would be wonderful to hear what she has to say.)
I hope you are able to join us, or watch the live streaming event tonight.
Best wishes and happy listening,
Brian
