Bandcamp Feature Article: "Present Music with Ghosts of the Past"
Plus: "Ohio Imprint" Closing Reception Tomorrow
Bandcamp Daily has published a feature article, "Brian Harnetty Makes Present Music with Ghosts of the Past," written by George Grella.
You can read the article here: daily.bandcamp.com/features/brian-harnetty-interview
A retrospective of past albums, the article begins with 2007's American Winter and moves through to last year's Words and Silences. I'm so happy it will help listeners connect the dots between albums over the past 15+ years. It also shows the threads and themes in the projects between sound archives, place, and memory.
For those of you new to these projects, there are a few additional albums you might find of interest, including: Silent City, which features collaborative tracks with Will Oldham, as well as The Star-Faced One, which shares recordings from the Sun Ra/El Saturn Collection, and Many Hands, 72 minutes of piano exploring labor and landscape in Appalachian Ohio.
And be sure to listen to the albums here: brianharnetty.bandcamp.com
For those of you in Ohio, there is a closing reception of “Ohio Imprint” tomorrow (Sunday, March 26) at the Ross Art Museum in the city of Delaware. Stop by and say hello; I’ll be there!
Here are a few photos from the exhibition:
One of the great things about this “Ohio Imprint” exhibition is that the Ross Art Museum is also showing two older video/sound works I’ve made in other parts of Ohio, Massillon and Shawnee. It’s fascinating to see the lines of connection between these older pieces and the current projects; connections that are both intentional and by chance. (It was also nice to see them with my son Henry, seen here checking them out.)
I hope you can join me tomorrow for the reception. If you can’t be there, you can read and learn more about this exhibition on my website here.
Best wishes and happy listening,
Brian
