September 2019 Newsletter: "Listening for the Future of Appalachia" Released on The Daily Yonder
This month: I'm pleased to announce that The Daily Yonder premiered a new documentary video of Forest Listening Rooms, called "Listening for the Future of Appalachia," which is produced by A Blade of Grass and Rava Films. In addition, a new Forest Listening Session has been scheduled for October. And finally, I share two radio programs featuring Shawnee, Ohio (one in German, one in Portuguese), on air this month in Europe.

VIDEO PREMIERE: "LISTENING FOR THE FUTURE OF APPALACHIA"
In May, a film crew from A Blade of Grass and Rava Films came to Ohio to document Forest Listening Rooms. I'm excited to share the film with you now. The Daily Yonder generously agreed to premiere the film on their website, updating an article I wrote for them this spring. Check out the film and let me know what you think!
FOREST LISTENING ROOM EVENT - OCTOBER 5
I'm so glad to continue the Forest Listening Rooms project, with a new listening event taking place Saturday, October 5. During these events, participants take a guided sound walk, listen to past and present voices of the forest, and share their own stories. This time, we will begin at Tecumseh Lake in Shawnee, and hike a 2-mile loop, followed by a listened session at the lake.
The event is from 9:30 - 12:00 on October 5, and the cost is $20/person.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Southern Perry Summer Youthshops, to help provide outdoor activities for local children. Lunch is provided.
Please consider coming - spaces are limited!
TWO NEW RADIO PROGRAMS IN GERMANY AND PORTUGAL
Two new radio programs are out this month, for SWR2's "Musikpassagen" in Germany, and RTP's "Geografia dos Sons" in Portugal. Both programs focus on Shawnee, Ohio. "Musikpassagen" includes interviews with me (in English, btw), and will premiere on Sunday, September 22. "Geografia dos Sons" can be heard now, and is hosted by an old friend and fellow student with me in London, Luis Tinoco. I'm happy to have the music reach these audiences in Europe!
