MOJO Magazine Gives SHAWNEE, OHIO 5/5 Stars
MOJO Magazine gave Shawnee, Ohio 5/5 stars - and I am extremely grateful to Andrew Male for this review. In it, Male states, "Harnetty's delicate, keening chamber folk recalls Moondog, Charlies Ives, and his old mentor, [Michael] Finnissy, yet retains a benevolent delicacy all of its own." The full review can be read in the magazine, which is on the shelves now in the UK and will be soon in the US.
George Grella Writes Article on Ambient Music for VAN
Author George Grella recently wrote this long-form article entitled "Imaginary Places: The Ambient Influence on Contemporary Music" for VAN Magazine. I'm happy to have a part in it, alongside many other composers that I admire, including Kate Carr, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, and John Luther Adams. Grella states that, "...the places of ambient music don’t have to be tethered to the present, even though that’s when they are heard—they can be a vision of the future or an evocation of the past." It is an insightful and lovely article and I hope you get a chance to read it.
Marble House Project: Family Residency
For the last two weeks of July, I have been in Dorset, Vermont, at the Marble House Project Family Residency. It is such a rare and special opportunity to be here with my wife Jen and son Henry. Plus, it has been wonderful to have both some needed solitude and quiet, and also be in the presence of many other artists and their families. While here, I am working on a new project that uses the sound archives of Thomas Merton, a 20th Century monk, contemplative, and prolific writer. If you are nearby, there is an open and free event here called "Art Seed" this Saturday (July 27, from 2 - 5 pm). It would be great to see you!
